Butterfly Tagging and Release

The purpose of tagging Monarchs is to associate the location of capture with the point of recovery for each butterfly. The data from these recaptures are used to determine the pathways taken by migrating Monarchs, the influence of weather on the migration, the survival rate of the Monarchs, etc. After the data is collected for each recovered Monarch, Monarch Watch calculates the distance travelled by that particular Monarch. Monarch Watch then contacts the tagger and shares this data. You can tag your own Monarch at our farm! Come be a part of history!
